What animals do you process?

We provide licensed on-farm slaughter and home kill services for sheep and goats. Pig home kill services are planned for early 2026, subject to final qualification and certification. All animals are handled calmly, respectfully and humanely.

Not yet. Pig home kill services are planned for early 2026, subject to final qualification and certification. If you’re planning pigs for 2026, you’re welcome to register interest and we will notify you when the service becomes available.

Which areas do you cover?

We cover Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, North Kent, the Midlands, London, Oxfordshire, Leicestershire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, South Yorkshire, Berkshire, Hertfordshire and Warwickshire.

Do you slaughter the animals on my farm or smallholding?

Yes. We are a fully mobile slaughter service and come directly to your property so animals remain in familiar surroundings and avoid stressful transport to an abattoir.

Is your slaughter method humane?

Yes. Animal welfare is our top priority. Animals are handled quietly with patience and minimal movement. Our methods follow UK regulations and humane best practice.

Do I need any special facilities on my holding?

You do not need specialist facilities. We only need safe vehicle access, a suitable outdoor working area and ideally a clean water supply.

Can I choose how my meat is cut?

Yes. We offer custom butchery including roasting joints, chops and diced cuts. We are happy to talk through options so the meat suits your household.

Will I get meat from my own animal?

Yes. You will always receive the meat from your own animal. We never batch or mix animals like some abattoirs do.

Are there any hidden costs?

No. We guarantee transparent pricing. Our standard charge for sheep and goats is £120 plus fuel at 50p per mile. Any additional costs are always discussed in advance.

Do you offer casualty and emergency slaughter?

Yes. We provide a 24/7 casualty and emergency livestock slaughter service for livestock. We will always do everything possible to return your meat, but with casualty animals we can only do so if it is fit for human consumption. Richard will assess on arrival and advise honestly.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking as early as possible, especially during busy periods or before Christmas. Contact us and we will offer the soonest available date.

How do I prepare my livestock before you arrive?

Animals should be kept dry, calm, and in a safe, accessible area. Our blog Step-by-Step Guide: Livestock Home Kill Preparation explains everything in more detail and we are always happy to advise.

Do you offer advice for first-time smallholders?

Yes. Many of our customers are first-time smallholders. We are always happy to answer questions and guide you through the process from booking to butchery.

Hi, I’m Richard, and I live in Cambridgeshire. I’m the founder of Green Fields Home Kill and Butchery, a business built on over 20 years of experience in the meat trade — and a lifelong passion for animal welfare. As a smallholder and livestock owner myself, I truly understand the needs of fellow farmers and smallholders.
