When Emergency or Casualty Slaughter Is Required

Emergency slaughter is appropriate when livestock is:

Injured

Unable to stand or walk

Suffering unexpectedly and unfit for transport (illegal to move)

At risk of prolonged pain or distress

In need of humane slaughter on the holding

All casualty slaughter must take place on-farm or on your smallholding. Transporting a suffering animal is not permitted.

Emergency Slaughter Pricing

Sheep & Goats (Simple Fixed Price)

£120 + mileage (50p per mile)

One straightforward fee, regardless of whether the carcass is suitable for consumption.

On-site dressing and butchery (if safe) are included.

Other Livestock (Pigs, Cattle & Larger Species)

Due to differences in carcass size, handling, and hanging times, pricing for other livestock is quoted individually.

Do I need a vet present?

No. A vet is only required for “Emergency Slaughter at an Abattoir,” not on-farm home kill.

Can casualty meat be eaten?

Only if safe. Richard will advise honestly on arrival.

Do you handle pigs and cattle?

Yes — pricing is quoted case-by-case.

What should I do while waiting?

Keep the animal calm, do not move it, ensure access for us, and keep your phone nearby.
